How to play Strands

You begin every Strands puzzle by trying to find the “theme words” hidden in a grid of letters. You can move letters by dragging or tapping to create words; double-tap the final letter to confirm it. If you find the correct word, the letters will turn blue and won't be selectable anymore.

Even if you find a word that isn’t a theme word, it still helps you out! For every three non-theme words you find that are at least four letters long, you get a hint—and a letter from one of the theme words will be shown, then you just need to unscramble it.

All the letters on the grid are used to spell out the theme words and there is no overlap. Each letter is used one time only.

Each puzzle has one “spangram,” a special theme word (or words) that explains the puzzle’s theme and connects two opposite sides of the board. When you find the spangram, it’ll turn yellow.
